DOUG LEVITT SEES AMERICA THROUGH

THE WINDOWS OF A GREYHOUND BUS

New Book Greyhound Diaries: Eastbound Edition Out February

LOS ANGELES, February 10, 2008 – Singer/songwriter and author Doug Levitt, who has spent the last three years traveling across the country on Greyhound bus, will release his first book Greyhound Diaries: Eastbound Edition this month through the publishing imprint Dogged Pony.    Greyhound Diaries: Eastbound Edition documents one of Levitt’s cross-country trips in 2007, and will be available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Powells and Borders, and can also be ordered at neighborhood bookstores nationwide.

Greyhound Diaries: Eastbound Edition is a selection from Levitt’s multimedia project The Greyhound Diaries that chronicles multiple journeys across America, his involvement with Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, a forthcoming album and a web series.  Carrying only his backpack, laptop and guitar, Levitt poignantly tells the stories of people working to make ends meet in a time that is exceptionally hard for the working poor in America.  The result is a multi-faceted look at America and the socio-economic issues facing the country through songs, stories and photographs.

Excerpt from book:

I set out with questions; among these: How does one individual make a modicum of difference in the age of corporatism? Is America the one most people see, or the one that keeps the place running? Oh and how the hell did I end up broke and alone on a road a little east of nowhere with most my worldly belongings on my back?

Aboriginal folk have ritual places where you go and return, where transformation happens, where growth is processed and questions are answered. It turns out mine moves, has 55 people, countless stories, and, sometimes, a young Latino gentleman with earrings and a Quicksilver sweatshirt fretting over his bags in the undercarriage.

Greyhound Diaries: Eastbound Edition also takes advantage of new digital printing technologies.  Through Dogged Pony, Greyhound Diaries: Eastbound Edition was taken from manuscript to finished book in less than a month and is primarily distributed online.  Coined as “print to demand publishing,” books in both print and electronic form are able to be marketed and sold in many environments both on and offline rather than printed in mass quantities, creating piles of potentially unsold books in mass market superstores.

“With Greyhound Diaries we are taking advantage of digital technologies and targeted online marketing to publish the book quickly and to reach a hungry audience,” said David Wilk, Publisher of Dogged Pony Books.  “We are positioning Doug Levitt for the next stage in his development as an author.”

Dogged Pony is a publishing imprint of Creative Management Partners, LLC, a Weston, Connecticut based publishing and communications business.  Creative Management Partners (CMP) is operated by book industry veteran David Wilk, as a consultancy to authors and publishers, providing innovative approaches to publishing in a digital communications environment.  Dogged Pony books are distributed by Ingram Publisher Services, and printed by Lightning Source International, both based in LaVergne, Tennessee.
